Hey! I know these are the tough times, but remember this time will also pass sooner (I wish) or later. This coronavirus pandemic has put a lot of barriers for travelers. So traveling at this time is barely possible. In the meantime, while we can’t go out, we can plan the places to visit after this lockdown disappear in India. So I’ve curated some places that you should visit after this lockdown. Some factors that I’ve considered during making this list, of places where you can visit after lockdown were:-

1.Kasauli

Kasauli is a small hill station located at 1,927m above sea level in Himachal Pradesh. Kasauli usually has a very pleasant climate, it usually stays between 13ºc – 27ºc throughout the year. Though the best time to visit Chakrata is April to November. Kasauli can be one of the best places you can visit after this lockdown.

As I’ve already mentioned that it is not a very big town, so it’s obvious that it has very few populations living here. According to the 2011 India census, Kasauli had a population of 4,994 of which 56% were males while 44% were females.

It is approximately 300 km away from Delhi by road. You can easily approach this place by various types of transport medium. If you love bike rides then 300 km shouldn’t be a big task for you to complete otherwise you can take your own car or maybe you can take a cab to the place. Other than roadways, you can also choose railways or airways.

The closest railway station to this place is Kalka which is 40 km away from the actual destination, you have to take a taxi from the station to cover up the rest of the distance.

The nearest airport is Chandigarh International Airport. Despite being the nearest, it’s 70 km away from Kasauli. Again, you need to have to take to a taxi to approach the destination.

2. Chakrata

Chakrata is a beautiful hill station which is located 2,118m above sea level in Uttarakhand. Chakrata is surrounded by coniferous forests of the Himalayan Range. The temperature can go as low as -5ºc in the winter season, so if you love the winters, you can visit this place in the winter season, after lockdown. If you are lucky enough then you might see snowfall.

According to the 2011 India census, Chakrata had a population of 5,117 of which 73% were males while 27% were females.

The distance from Delhi to Chakrata is 326 km by road. The nearest airport Jolly Grant in Dehradun which is about 117 km away from Chakrata. The nearest railway station is Dehradun railway station that’s approx. 92 km away from the Chakrata.

3. Dhanaulti

Dhanaulti, a hamlet situated in the foothills of the Garhwal Himalayan Range, is located 24 km from the hill station of Mussoorie. It could be the best place to visit after this lockdown.

The temperature ranges between 20ºc to 25ºc in summers, while the temperature drops to -1ºc in winters. The best time to visit this beautiful place is between March to June.

Though Dhanaulti is a medium-sized village it still has very few people living. The total population of Dhanaulti village is 346 out of which 228 are males and 118 are females as per Population Census 2011.

There are several transport options to opt for to reach Dhanaulti. You need to reach Dehradun first in order to reach Dhanaulti if you are going to choose public transport like bus, train or plane. But if you are planning to come here with your own vehicle, then you have to drive for at least 281 km from Delhi to reach.

4. Triund

Triund is one of the best places to visit after lockdown in India

Triund, one of the best places to visit after this lockdown, is a charming hamlet perched at a height of about 2,828m in Kangra Valley of Himachal Pradesh. It is considered as the heart of McLeodganj and Dharamshala, from where the actual trek begins, for which Triund is known.

The temperature stays between 4ºc to 15ºc throughout the year. The best time to visit Triund is between March to October, as you won’t find much difficulty in this time period.

You can take an overnight bus from Delhi to McLeodganj or Dharamshala which will be the first stop to reach Triund. From Dharamshala to Triund is 8 km. The nearest railway station is Pathankot Cant. at a distance of 91 km from McLeodganj further, you need to hire a taxi to cover up the rest of the distance. And the nearest airport from Triund is Gaggal Airport which is located at a distance of 10 km from Triund.

5. Gangtok

Gangtok is one of the most beautiful places to visit in India after this lockdown. It is the capital and the largest town of Sikkim. Gangtok is located in the Eastern Himalayan Range at an elevation of 1,650m.

This place has a population of around 100k but still, they managed to conquer the pandemic, as all other states are hustling the pandemic the eastern states of India have less covid spread.

Gangtok’s tourist season is summer which starts in April and lasts till June. The temperature range between 18ºc to 25ºc with warmer days and cold nights. This time period is the peak time for Gangtok, this is the actual best time you can visit Gangtok.

If you plan to reach Gangtok by air, then you need to reach the Bagdogra Airport in West Bengal, as it is the nearest airport to the final destination. But if you plan to take a train ride, then you need to reach the New Jalpaiguri which is the located 120 km away from Gangtok. Now comes the iceberg, if you somehow planned to do a road trip. Then get ready it is going to be a long (could be hectic for someone who is not used to it) ride, it is 1,571 km away from Delhi.

Cherrapunji is the wettest place in the world. The weather here stays pleasant throughout the year because of rain. As far as your sight, you can only see the greenery, this is the beauty of this place.

Cherrapunji is sitting at an elevation of 1,430m above from sea level on a plateau in the southern part of Khasi Hills.

Okay! Drop the plan of going by road, if you don’t like the road trip, as it is 2,069 km away from Delhi. Although you can go by air or rail. The nearest airport to Cherrapunji is the Mori Airport in Shillong which’s almost 91 km away from the location, while the nearest railway station ton Cherrapunji is Guwahati, again the railway station is very far from the location approximately 181 km.

The best time to visit Sikkim is between May and September when the temperature ranges between 28ºc to 30ºc.

Sikkim is 30 hrs drive away from Delhi that’s 1,601 km. Though the main airport to visit Sikkim is Pakyong Airport and the main railway station is Jalpaiguri and Siliguri railway station, you can choose either one of them.

8. Sarahan

Sarahan is elevated at 7,589 ft above sea level, the hamlet of Sarahan is located northwest of Shimla. Sarahan is also known as the gateway of Kinnaur Valley.

The ideal season to go to Sarahan is between April and June. You can get a glimpse of snow in Kurfi and Narkanda between September to November.

The distance from Delhi to Sarahan is 507 km and it almost takes 12-13 hrs drive to reach. If you plan to come here by air, then you can get the ticker for the Jubbarhatti airport, that’s approx. 165 km from Sarahan but is the nearest one. You can get the tickets for Shimla’s railway station if you opted the train to commute here, again that’s 165 km away from Sarahan.

The temperature here stays very hot between 22ºc to 40ºc in the summer season, while in winter it drops to 12ºc. The best time to visit Varkala is in winters between October to march, as the temperature stays very pleasant in this time period.

Reaching here by train is really easy, as the main railway station is Varkala itself which is 3 km away from the final location, while the nearest airport to the final location is Trivandrum Internation Airport which is 57 km away from Varkala.

Pondicherry, also known as Pudducherry. Pondicherry is a beach-side union territory located in Tamil Nadu. Pudducherry stays lit up in the night as there are many clubs and bars to chill.

The best time to visit Pudducherry is from October to March as the weather will be very pleasant during these months. The temperature stays between 15ºc to 30ºc during this time period.

It will take 40 hrs of drive from Delhi if you choose to go by road and that’s 2,369 km. You can also take a flight or train to reach faster. The nearest railway station will be Vullupuram Junction, just 37 km away from Pudducherry and the nearest airport to Pudducherry is Chennai International Airport.
